Single-walled carbon nanohorns are a member of the nanocarbon materials family that also includes carbon nanotubes and graphene. Each nanohorn is a single graphene sheet that forms a long cone shape with angles of about 20° and tube diameters of 2-5 nm. Thousands of nanohorns associate with one another to form a flower-like structure, often described as resembling a dahlia, with an average diameter of 80-100 nm. This unique structure has a high surface area and high microporosity. It lends itself to applications such as gas adsorption, gas storage, biosensing, and drug delivery systems, to name a few. In addition, recent advances have been made into large-scale production of single-walled carbon nanohorns.
