TEM offers resolutions thousands of times greater than those offered by light microscopes and is a powerful primary analytical method used by physical, biological, and chemical researchers.

TEM grids are flat surfaces filled with microscopic holes that support the specimen and allow the electron beam to pass through unimpeded, but some small particles are still able to fall through even these tiniest of holes. Graphene suspended over the TEM grid prevents particles from slipping through the holes and still allows the electron beam to pass through and interact with the specimen without any interference.
